Gerald Avery Wilson awarded the 2018 BIG Scholarship
Lenexa, Kan., April 18, 2018—Grantham University, an online university, awarded the National Organization of Blacks in Government (BIG) Scholarship to Gerald Avery Wilson. With the full scholarship, Wilson will pursue his Bachelor of Business Administration in Human Resource Management.
Wilson is a gold plus member of BIG and serves as president of BIG’s Parklawn chapter in Region XI. In January 2018, he began his first term as president of BIG’s Darlene Young Leadership Academy Alumni Association. In addition to his involvement in BIG, he is active in his community and serves as a pastor for churches in Baltimore and Washington, D.C.
He earned the scholarship because of his extensive service to BIG and the quality of his essay detailing “The BIG Experience: Today's Vision, Tomorrow's Reality.”
“We are proud to award this scholarship to Gerald Avery Wilson,” said Scott Andrews, Grantham University president and CEO. “At Grantham we are passionate about diversity and giving back, and he embodies that philosophy in his commitment to education and making a difference in the community.”
According to Wilson, the bachelor's degree will help advance his career. He currently serves as the special assistant to the deputy director of human resources/chief learning officer at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Since 2013, Grantham has partnered with BIG at the national level to offer a full scholarship for a BIG member or their immediate family to pursue a graduate or undergraduate degree at the university. In addition to the scholarship opportunity, the partnership allows members of BIG to receive a special tuition rate of $250 per credit hour.
